A conversation with: Kevin Lopes
Prophet: What’s your name, and what do you do?
Thera P: My name is Prince, also known as Thera P, and I’m a DJ.
Prophet: Where are you based, and what’s your heritage?
Thera P: I’m based in Milan, but I’m Ghanaian.
Prophet: How has your heritage influenced the way you approach DJing and music selection? Are there particular cultural or musical elements from your background that you try to incorporate into your sets?
Thera P: My Ghanaian heritage and African culture in general have greatly influenced my taste in music, which shapes my DJing and music selection.
Prophet: When you look back on your early days as a DJ, is there anything you wish you knew or advice you wish you had received?
Thera P: I wish I had learnt how to organise better.
Prophet: How would you describe the music and nightlife culture in Milan, and how do you think it compares to cities like New York, Paris, or London?
Thera P: I honestly think the nightlife in Milan is above average. It receives a lot of criticism, but I believe the nightlife culture in Milan is healthy and thriving. That said, Paris has more energy and diversity, which Milan lacks. I haven’t experienced the nightlife in New York or London, so I can’t comment on them.
Prophet: How do you keep your sets fresh and exciting? Do you have a process for selecting tracks, or do you go more by feel and intuition during a live performance?
Thera P: I never plan a set at home. I just select a few tracks I’d like to play and start from there. I go by feel and read the audience. I follow the flow and vibes of the night.
Prophet: You’re part of the Lost ID collective—can you share the story behind its creation and the mission behind the collective?
Thera P: Lost ID collective is a group of creatives with a shared goal of pushing each other forward. It was founded in the summer of 2024 and includes DJs, producers, painters, photographers, architects, and more.
Prophet: If you could collaborate with any artist—musical or otherwise—who would it be, and what kind of project would you envision creating?
Thera P: My dream is to develop my craft as a producer and create a hit so impactful that my favourite artists would want to collaborate on it. That’s a big, big dream of mine.
Prophet: If you could ask another creative—musician, artist, or DJ—a question, what would you ask them?
Thera P: I’d ask Kanye West how it’s possible to balance being both chaotic and a grounded creative at the same time.
